As I write this on September 24th 2010, tropical storm Matthew is bearing down on Nicaragua and is projected to pass over Honduras right near the northern coastline (http://www.noaawatch.gov/2010/tc_at15.php). Winds have reached 50mph but are not projected to grow any stronger as Matthew reaches landfall later today. At least it's not at hurricane strength which is above 75mph. But 50mph is nothing to sneeze at. Using the Historical Hurricane Tracks viewer (http://csc-s-maps-q.csc.noaa.gov/hurricanes/viewer.html) I've determined that very few hurricanes have struck the northern Honduran coastline.
